Movie Morsels: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2’s Story, First Cast Photo of Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, & More

Who wants a little Disney magic this Wednesday morning? Because we’ve got quite a lot of it for you in today’s Movie Morsels, especially when we factor in the studio’s Marvel and Lucasfilm projects — including director James Gunn’s plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, news on how you can watch the Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens panel at this week’s Star Wars Celebration convention, a featurette on the Avengers’ new foe in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and our first look at the cast of Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated Beauty and the Beast. All this plus a TV spot for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s action thriller San Andreas!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

James Gunn

James Gunn isn’t lying when he says he had a great time making Guardians of the Galaxy. Because the filmmaker not only has his story in place for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well! Speaking with Vulture on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Gunn remarks, “At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it’s exciting to go there… Listen, I’m still excited about Star-Lord’s character and where he goes… I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be. And the third one!” Guardians 2 begins shooting in February 2016 for a May 5, 2017 release.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Force Awakens

Not going to this week’s Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim? Going but starting to realize you don’t stand a chance of getting into Thursday morning’s The Force Awakens panel with director J.J. Abrams? Not to worry — the panel, as well as thirty additional hours of the event, will stream live online for all the world to see on StarWars.com!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

And today’s Avengers: Age of Ultron behind-the-scenes featurette stars… Ultron! Learn all about the insane robot who’s been a thorn in the side of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes since the 1960s. Joss Whedon’s mucho anticipated sequel — starring all your returning faves and introducing Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as the Vision, and James Spader as the titular villain — lands on May 1st.

By the way, if you haven’t seen the Avengers‘ stars playing Family Feud on Jimmy Kimmel Live! yet, what in the Nine Realms are you waiting for?!

San Andreas

Can you smell what San Andreas is cooking? You sure can after watching this first TV spot for the Dwayne Johnson starring film about a rescue helicopter pilot reuniting with his estranged wife against the backdrop of an epic quake hitting the west coast. Director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn reteam with The Rock (after the three collaborated on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island). Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Paul Giamatti co-star. San Andreas opens (sorry) in 2D and 3D on May 29th.

Beauty and the Beast

Heads up, Disney fans! The once and future Olaf — actor Josh Gad — has just shared via Instagram the first photo featuring the assembled cast of the studio’s live-action adaptation of its animated Beauty and the Beast. Here’s Gad (who plays Gaston’s henchman Lefou), Dan Stevens (the Beast), Emma Watson (Belle), Luke Evans (Gaston), and Kevin Kline (Belle’s dad Maurice). The film, which also stars Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, starts shooting at London’s Shepperton Studios in May, and will debut on March 17, 2017.

Can’t wait for you to be our guest.
