Friday Night Lights star Jay Hernandez has signed on to star in DC/Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad. Though his character’s identity has not yet been revealed, The Wrap, which broke the news, believes he could play a prison cell mate of Jared Leto’s Joker. Spectre

James Bond

In the wake of yesterday’s news about another accident during the Austrian shooting of the next James Bond thriller Spectre, we’ve got some more positive info, and a new photo of stars Daniel Craig and Monica Bellucci on location in Rome (see above). The two actors apparently met yesterday with the mayor of Rome to discuss shooting in the Eternal City, which starts March 8th with a car chase “in Via Nomentana, from viale Gorizia to Porta Pia.” The filming will block traffic and occur between 9 PM and 6 AM. Another car chase will take place on the Lungotevere, ending with Bond’s car falling into the river and the agent saved by an overhead helicopter. Second-unit shooting of chase footage is scheduled to take place in via Barberini, via Quattro Fontane and via Nazionale, along with Borgo Pio, the Milvian Bridge and Piazza Navona.

Shaft

Shaft

Who’s the black private dick that’s a sex machine to all the chicks?! Shaft! You’re damn right. And now New Line has acquired the movie rights to the character and is planning to reboot his cinematic adventures. Man, no wonder they say that cat Shaft is a bad mutha-

The Princess in Black

The Princess in Black

With Marvel’s Captain Marvel in development, it looks like we’ll soon get a solo superheroine film as good as the studio’s recent efforts starring male champions. Now Universal hopes to keep the ball rolling for younger audiences and fuse the superhero genre with the “Disney princess” movement. The studio has optioned the bestselling children’s book The Princess in Black, written by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale and illustrated by LeUyen Pham. The book stars the Zorro-like Princess Magnolia, royal by day, righteous crimefighter by night.

Michelle Darnell

Melissa McCarthy

Last year’s Tammy — Melissa McCarthy’s first feature film collaboration with her husband, director Ben Falcone (best known as her hapless airplane seat neighbor in Bridesmaids) — didn’t blow the roof off the box office. But the couple is bound to have better luck with their next comedy, Michelle Darnell, which has just recruited Frozen‘s Kristen Bell to play the assistant of McCarthy’s title character, who’s sentenced to jail for insider training and emerges determined to set her life right. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions will co-produce with McCarthy and Falcone.
