There’s no end to the surprises in today’s Movie Morsels. How about the first trailer for the Despicable Me spinoff Minions? Or our first look at R2-D2 in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII? Maybe a teasing glimpse of the Doctor Strange story that’s on director Scott Derrickson’s mind as he readies his film about Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme? Okay then, what about five clips from Dumb and Dumber To? All this and more awaits!
Minions
Universal has just unveiled the first trailer for its Despicable Me spinoff Minions, which arrives in theaters on July 10th, 2015. Focusing on three of pint-sized yellow henchmen, the film — directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin — features the voices of Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm, as well as Despicable Me star Steve Carell. The film “introduces Kevin, Stuart and Bob, three minions who go in search of an evil mastermind to work for after they accidentally kill all of their previous bosses.”
Star Wars Episode VII
If you’ve been feeling a little worn-down lately, just take a look at the first image of R2D2 from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars Episode VII! As the above photo (taken at the film’s recent wrap party in London) shows, the little astromech droid has clearly done some hard-living since Return of the Jedi. But how much of his wear and tear comes from the battles fought in the next Star Wars film? We’ll find out when Episode VII arrives on December 18th, 2015.
Untitled Steve Jobs Biopic
What?! No sooner do we hear that Seth Rogen is in negotiations to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in Sony’s upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, than we learn that Christian Bale (pictured above in Rescue Dawn) has dropped out of the project and will no longer be playing Jobs. *Sigh* “Bale had talks with director Danny Boyle about taking on the role, but a deal never came to fruition. The news comes almost two weeks after the biopicâs screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, told Bloomberg that Bale was a lock for the part of Jobs. ‘We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and thatâs Chris Bale,’ he said. ‘Itâs an extremely difficult part and heâs gonna crush it.’ Sony will now look to find its replacement after Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio both passed on the part.”

Doctor Strange
Director Scott Derrickson has been careful not to reveal too much of his plans for Marvel’s Doctor Strange. But it now looks like the filmmaker is letting images speak for him. Yesterday Derrickson tweeted a panel from a classic Doctor Strange story that may offer a clue as to the look, feel, and/or plot of his movie. Shown above, it’s from writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Dan Green’s 1986 graphic novel Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa.
“The story begins with Strange visiting the home of the Ancient One twenty years after the sorcerer taught him in the ways of magic. Discovering an artifact that has been left as a gift for him, he brings it back home for study – and winds up opening communication with beings of a higher reality known as the Lords of Shamballa. An opportunity is introduced that would allow humanity to reach another level and enter a golden age, but, of course, an enormous sacrifice would have to be made in order for it to happen.”
Dumb and Dumber To
Only ten days left until the Farrelly Brothers’ Dumb and Dumber To hits theaters (with star Jim Carrey rebounding off his amazing Saturday Night Live riff on Matthew McConaughey), so let’s get excited with a whopping five new clips.
“The sequel stars Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Rachel Melvin, Kathleen Turner, Brady Bluhm, Laurie Holden, Steve Tom and Rob Riggle. In the film, Lloyd and Harry head on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.”
Stratton
If you thought all there was to Henry Cavill was Kal-El of Krypton, think again. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star has formed his own production company, Promethean Productions, which is about to tackle its first film, Stratton, an “action thriller that Promethean will produce with Amber Entertainment and GFM Films. It is based on an eight-novel series by Duncan Falconer, a pseudonym for an author who used his own military background to inform the lead character. John Stratton is an operative of the SBS who works with the Intelligence Detachment in Northern Ireland. The character seems a strong fit for Cavill, starting out in Kazakhstan and China and moving to mainland Europe and London.” Filming will begin in the spring.
