Movie Morsels: First Look at Disney’s FROZEN EVER AFTER and ZOOTOPIA, Hugh Jackman Talks Final WOLVERINE Film

Although Elsa’s ready to let it go (as we’ve heard her tell us again and again and again…), Disney sure isn’t. We’ve got the lowdown on the studio’s epic Frozen theme park attraction Frozen Ever After in today’s Movie Morsels, as well as the latest TV spot for Ant-Man, a video interview with Hugh Jackman on his third and final solo screen outing as Wolverine, a first look at Zootopia, a poster for Emma Watson‘s Regression, and word on Brad Pitt‘s Netflix movie War Machine!

Ant-Man

The latest TV spot for Marvel’s Ant-Man finds Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym issuing a warning to Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, as well as more of Rudd’s boxing trainer, Evengeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. Director Peyton Reed’s film opens on July 17th.

Wolverine 3

Though it remains unclear if Hugh Jackman will make a cameo appearance as everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant in Fox’s Deadpool (out on February 12, 2016) or X-Men: Apocalypse (debuting May 27 2016), the actor has confirmed that the third, currently untitled Wolverine solo film, bowing on March 3, 2017, will, sadly, mark his final appearance in the role that made him a star. Jackman spoke about his upcoming swan song, written by David James Kelly and directed by James Mangold, on TV’s LIVE with Kelly and Michael

Frozen Ever After

Frozen Ever After

Face front, Frozen fans! We’ve got our first ever look at the Disney theme park tie-in attraction Frozen Ever After (pictured above), which will replace the Maelstrom ride in the Norway pavilion at Walt Disney World’s Epcot in 2016. Imagineering creative executive Kathy Mangum says, “What we try to do is take you back to the movie without retelling that story. This is a celebration of the characters, a way for guests who love the film to experience it in a completely different way.”

Frozen composers Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson Lopez have written additional lyrics for the film’s songs. Visitors will ride through the four-minute attraction in logs which will take them through scenes of Olaf and Sven setting up Arendelle’s Winter Festival, the trolls in Troll Valley, Anna and Kristof singing alongside an ice skating Olaf, the giant snowman Marshmallow and Frozen Fever‘s Snowgies, and of course Elsa in her castle, singing “Let It Go” amidst a sea of floating snow crystals rendered with the latest in cutting-edge effects technology. The whole thing culminates with the Festival’s fireworks celebration and farewell waves from the Frozen stars.

Zootopia

Zootopia

Speaking of Disney animation… The studio has just released its first look at Zootopia, its anthropomorphic buddy comedy adventure, arriving on March 4, 2016. Starring Jason Bateman as “sly con-artist fox” Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as “idealistic rookie rabbit cop” Judy Hopps, who are forced to work together in order to help Judy crack a case, the film is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph). Moore describes Judy as “a little Pollyanna mixed with Furiosa.” Goodwin describes Zootopia as being “as fully immersive as though you walked into Disneyland. This movie is begging for an entire division of the theme park.”

Regression

The Weinstein Company’s chiller Regression has a new poster. Directed by Alejandro Amenábar (The Others) and starring Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, the film is set in 1990 and follows “detective Bruce Kenner (Hawke) as he investigates the case of young Angela (Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.”

Regression hits theaters on August 28th. Late August isn’t exactly known for putting primo nail-biters in theaters, but I’ll watch Watson in damn near anything, so count me in.

War Machine

Brad Pitt

No, it’s not a solo spinoff film for Iron Man’s fellow armored Avenger James Rhodes, but it still sounds terrific. Brad Pitt will star in Netflix’s War Machine, a political satire in which Pitt will play a character based on Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general for America’s forces in Afghanistan. Adapted from the late author Michael Hastings’ The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War in Afghanistan, the film will be directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The Rover). It will be “the biggest investment Netflix will have made so far in a feature film, in the $30 million range.”
