Movie Morsels: Chris Evans Talks CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Did everyone have a relaxing Star Wars Day yesterday? Good, because in today’s Movie Morsels we’ll fill you in on what’s been happening in a galaxy that’s not far, far away. We get started with the latest on next year’s Captain America: Civil War via a video interview with the film’s stars themselves. Then it’s hooray time, because we’ll learn John Wick 2 is a thing that is most definitely happening. Plus, we know who the It film adaptation’s creepy clown will be. All this plus a Barbershop 3 casting update and Louis C.K.’s return to the big screen!

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America Iron Man

With so much of Avengers: Age of Ultron functioning as set-up for Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Ragnarok (or, as I prefer to call it, Thor: Ragnarok and Roll!), Marvel movie fans might be leery upon hearing that Civil War itself will function as preamble to Infinity War. But that’s what star Chris Evans had to tell MTV when interviewed about the latest Avengers film.

Below you can watch Evans comment on his next screen outing as Steve Rogers, as well as hear from co-stars Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson (who seems keen on getting fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo into the film). Captain America: Civil War — co-starring Anthony Mackie, Robert Downey Jr., Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, and Frank Grillo; and introducing Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, and whoever Marvel winds up casting as Spider-Man — debuts on May 6, 2016

John Wick 2

John-Wick

John Wick proved to be one of last year’s biggest surprises, marking an action-movie comeback for its star Keanu Reeves and a breakthrough for directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski. So it’s no surprise, (but welcome news all the same) that Lionsgate is bringing all three gentleman back, along with their screenwriter Derek Kolstad, for a sequel. Thus far the studio’s synopsis merely states: “In the follow up to last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller, legendary hit man John Wick is back.” Expect more on the film soon.

It

Pennywise

Move over, Tim Curry. True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga has an actor to play the title creature in his film adaption of Stephen King’s It. Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, We’re The Millers) will star as the monster, whose best known form is that of Pennywise the creepy clown (pictured above, as played by Tim Curry in the 1990 TV miniseries adaptation directed by Tommy Lee Wallace). Fukunaga’s take on the tale, which he co-scripted with Chase Palmer, will be divided into two films, one reportedly focusing on the novel’s protagonists when they are children, and one on them as adults. The 22-year-old Poulter will first demonstrate his chops as a heavy in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s The Revenant, which opens on Christmas Day.

I’m a Cop

Though Louis C.K. has won a huge following and massive critical acclaim for his offbeat TV sitcom Louie, the funnyman has yet to parlay that success into a superstar film career. That could start to change, however, with the announcement of his indie vehicle I’m a Cop, which he’ll write, direct, and star in. The film’s story focuses on “a depressed middle-aged man who is a volunteer police officer living in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated retired officer. When she dies, her continued influence forces him to become a real police officer, which is something he never wanted to be.”

Barbershop 3

Nicki Minaj

In other comedy news, rap star Nicki Minaj has joined the cast of Barbershop 3. She’ll star opposite the returning Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer, as well as newcomers Regina Hall, Eve, and Common in the Malcolm D. Lee-directed film.
