With all the Marvel Studios news announced yesterday, is there anything left for Movie Morsels to report? Hell, yes! We’ve got a few tidbits from the likes of Avengers: Age of Ultron and the Black Panther. As well as word on Keanu Reeves’ next action epic Replicas. Plus, news of upcoming movies starring Jason Bateman and Renee Zellweger, and a lost unfinished masterpiece from Orson Welles is on its way to a long overdue completion!
Captain America: Civil War
With yesterday’s announcement of the title of Captain America’s next solo film — Civil War — which will presumably pit him against Iron Man (as played by Robert Downey Jr., who’s also appearing in the sequel), one may wonder what triggers the movie’s titular dissent. A possible clue can be found in Chris Evans’ just-released comments regarding Cap’s position in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Speaking from the film’s set in May, the actor remarked, “Heâs still looking for a home, probably a metaphorical home. Heâs always felt comfortable as a soldier. And he likes structure. He works well taking orders. But when that dynamic turned on him, heâs now left to depend upon his team, the Avengers. There really is no one above them telling them what to do. Theyâre kind of having to operate independently. So thereâs a lot of leaning on one another, but there really isnât a kind of clear chain of command. And I think Cap looks for that. I think heâs looking to understand where he belongs, not just as a soldier, as Captain America, but as Steve Rogers, as a person.â
It’s not much of a stretch to imagine the Avengers’ lack of hierarchy leading to trouble within the team’s ranks. We’ll know for sure when Age of Ultron debuts on May 1st.
Black Panther
Actor Chadwick Boseman got a warm reception from fans yesterday when it was announced he had been signed to star as Marvel’s Wakandan prince in the studio’s upcoming Phase 3. But just how long will be able to enjoy Boseman as T’Challa? It turns out that he’s signed a five-picture deal, which will include his debut in Captain America: Civil War (on May 6, 2016) and his first solo film (on November 3, 2017). The other three? The two-part Avengers: Infinity War is likely, but we’ll just have to speculate until the studio releases further news.

Replicas
With his John Wick (pictured above) riding a wive of critical and fan love at the box office, Keanu Reeves has lined up his next action movie vehicle — Replicas, a science-fiction tale from Lotus Entertainment and di Bonaventura Pictures. “Directed by Tanya Wexler (Hysteria) from a screenplay by Chad St. John, the sci-fi thriller centers on a daring neuroscientist (Reeves) who, after a car accident kills his family, will stop at nothing to bring them back, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force and the physical laws of science.”
IPO Man
After making his feature-film directorial debut with Bad Words (seen above), and following it up with the upcoming Nicole Kidman starrer The Family Fang, Jason Bateman will adapt and star in a film based on a true story — albeit one as high concept as any Hollywood comedy — in IPO Man, based on the Wired magazine article “Meet The Man Who Sold His Fate To Investors At $1 A Share” by Joshua Davis. Bateman will “play a man who found a novel commodity for a public offering: himself. It created a host of problems for the actual guy, Mike Merrill, when shareholders demanded control over life decisions like whether or not to have a vasectomy, or even whether he should move in with his longtime girlfriend (and minority shareholder).”

Same Kind of Different as Me
Oscar winner Renee Zellweger has been all but absent from movie screens in recent years, a situation she’s about to rectify with Same Kind of Different as Me. Co-starring Greg Kinnear and based on the nonfiction bestseller by Ron Hall and Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent (the author of Heaven is for Real, on which Kinnear’s film of the same name was based), the Paramount release also features Djimon Hounsou and Jon Voight. Kinnear plays “international art dealer Ron Hall, who must befriend a dangerous homeless man (Hounsou) in order to save his struggling marriage to his wife (Zellweger), a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the most remarkable journey of their lives. Voight plays Hall’s father, with whom he reconciles thanks to the revelations of his new life.”
The Other Side of the Wind
Finally today, we have news that should be greeted with rejoicing by classic film fans. Master filmmaker Orson Welles’ final unfinished work The Other Side of the Wind, has been the stuff of movie-buff legends, focusing on a director (played by another iconic filmmaker, John Huston) nearing the end of his career, who encounters friends, critics, and the young turks (one of whom is played by Peter Bogdanovich) replacing him at his final birthday dinner party. Shot between 1970 and 1976, only forty minutes were edited during Welles lifetime. After forty years, however, Welles’ line producer Frank Marshall — the same Frank Marshall who would go on to produce favorites like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future — is seeking to complete the film with Filip Jan Rymsza of Royal Road Entertainment and German producer Jens Koethner Kaulper. “In recent months, the filmmakers have met with Welles’ youngest daughter, Beatrice, who heads the Estate of Orson Welles, and detailed their plans. The producers will seek a distributor at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, Calif., next month.”

I’m really excited to see the Civil War storyline, but I’m worried that they won’t be able to set it up properly. There are still a lot of characters that would need to be introduced (Hulkling, Cable, Punisher, definitely Goliath) and I just don’t know how they’re going to do it if they don’t have those characters and others.
We can also see Steve Rogers and Tony Stark in quite the heated argument in that other clip of Avengers: Age of Ultron. There is a lot of hidden mistrust between the two when the chips are down.
