Movie Morsels: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Casts a BASTERD, New HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY TV Spots, and More!

Hope y’all had a fine weekend and are feeling refreshed this Monday morning. But just in case you’re not, in today’s Movie Morsels we’ll share some news about a few things worth looking forward to — like Captain America: Civil War and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 — as well as something worth listening to — like the complete end credits song from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies! All this and more awaits you below.

Captain America: Civil War

Daniel Bruhl

Another key player in Captain America: Civil War is in place, with Inglourious Basterds star Daniel Bruhl set to play one of the film’s villains. “The third installment, to be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, brings back Chris Evans and marks the debut of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and Sebastian Stan, who’s back as The Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie back as The Falcon. Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson are also expected to take part.” The German actor, best know for playing Melanie Laurent’s would-be suitor in Quentin Tarantino’s film, also co-starred with Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth in Rush. In a studio press release, Marvel chief Kevin Feige stated, “With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.” Now begins the speculation over which villain Bruhl could play. Baron Zemo anyone?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

Hunger Games

Director Francis Lawrence says Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance in the two remaining Hunger Games films — Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 — was not completed via CGI or stand-ins (as is the case with Paul Walker’s brothers filling in for him in the upcoming Furious 7) but by rewriting the films’ scripts. Regarding Hoffman’s two unfilmed dialogue scenes, Lawrence remarks, “I just think to try to fake a Philip Seymour Hoffman performance would have been catastrophic and I would never want to do that.”

Two more TV spots for the film — due out on November 21st — have just been released:

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Hobbit

Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd (a/k/a Pippin) performs the end credits song in Peter Jackson’s final Middle-Earth movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. And according to the actor, “We focused on not just the final installment, but moreso on this ten-year epic adventure. A song to sum up the six movies.” Now Billboard has just premiered that tearjerking tune, which you can hear below. The Battle of the Five Armies will be fought on December 17th. A marathon of all three Hobbit movies will play in select IMAX theaters two days beforehand — on December 15th.

Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur

Jude Law

As one fantasy epic ends, another begins… Jude Law is in talks to star as a villain in director Guy Ritchie’s six-film saga about the Arthurian Legend, starting with Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur, which debuts on July 22, 2016. Law has already worked with Ritchie on his two Sherlock Holmes films, so one presumes he knows what he’s in for. “Ritchie has already cast Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam as Arthur and relative unknown Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere, although negotiations to have Idris Elba play a ‘Merlin-esque figure’ have reportedly fallen through. Ritchie is now on the hunt to replace him.”

The Accountant

Jon Bernthal

Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal is pretty busy these days. After starring last year’s The Wolf of Wall Street and the Brad Pitt World War II thriller Fury, the actor has been cast in the crime saga The Godmother, and is now in talks to co-star in director Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant. The film features Ben Affleck as a number-cruncher by day and assassin by night. “J.K. Simmons is in talks to co-star in the film, while Anna Kendrick is being sought for the female lead. Bernthal’s potential role remains under wraps, though Affleck is said to be a fan of the actor, who’s also rumored to be under consideration for a role in Affleck’s upcoming WB crime drama Live By Night.”

Mozu

Mozu

Japan’s TV crime thriller Mozu is on its way to becoming a feature film. “Series director Eiichiro Hasumi is to helm and show’s main cast reprise their TV roles. These include lead Hidetoshi Nishijima as a cop out to find thae mysterious bomber who killed his wife. Release is scheduled for 2015, with the distributor yet to be announced. Based on a novel by Go Osaka, the series is a stand-out not only for its unusual co-production arrangement, with the TBS network broadcasting the first ten-episode season (April-June of this year) and the Wowow pay channel and TBS jointly airing the five-episode second season (June-November), but its full-throttle action scenes.”
