Blade Runner 2

Blade Runner FI

Well, we now know that director Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner will look real pretty. Roger Deakins has signed onto the film as director of photography. Deakins, who’s best known for his work on the Coen Brothers’ films and the last James Bond thriller Skyfall, has already worked with Villeneuve on Prisoners and Sicario, a “drug-trafficking drama” starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro debuting at this month’s Cannes Film Festival. Blade Runner 2, or whatever it winds up being called, will start principal photography in the summer of 2016. Original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have written the screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott. The sequel takes place a few decades after the original, and, yes, Harrison Ford will return, joined this time, if the negotiations work out, by Ryan Gosling.

Pixels

Aw, now who says movie studios aren’t sentimental? In honor of Friday’s thirty-fifth anniversary of the release of Pac-Man, Sony has gifted us with a new clip from Pixels, in which the yellow power-pellet chomper grows huge and wreaks havoc on New York, and his creator, Professor Toru Iwatani. Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson, and Jane Krakowski star in the film, which opens on July 24th.

Conner4real

Secrets have finally been revealed about the Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie, which is now being called Conner4real. A movie poster arrived last week, along with word that Sarah Silverman will co-star. Now we hear that Tim Meadows will appear in the film, as well as the English-speaking world’s most awkwardly named actress, Imogen Poots. Poot’s (whose name I never tire of typing) is in talks to star as the film’s female lead, a romantic interest for Andy Samberg’s character, the titular rapper Conner. Conner4real is said to explore the world of boy bands, as only the Lonely Island comedy troupe can. Here’s the poster, as tweeted by producer Judd Apatow…

The Magnificent Seven

Peter Sarsgaard

The Lord taketh and the Lord giveth… Future Aquaman Jason Momoa has apparently left his role as a villain in director Antoine Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven (itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai). But the film has gained an actor in Peter Sarsgaard, who’s in “final talks” to play a different villain. Sarsgaard (pictured above in last year’s Experimenter) will join Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Matt Bomer, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, Wagner Moura, and Haley Bennett in the western.
