Movie Morsels: Benedict Cumberbatch May Play Thomas Edison in THE CURRENT WAR

It’s the last Movie Morsels of the week, folks! But don’t be sad, we’re going out with a bang, staring with news of what looks to be Benedict Cumberbatch‘s next project. Plus, the latest from director Paul Feig on the Ghostbusters reboot, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Men in Black updates, the very first Angry Birds Movie trailer, and more!

The Current War

Social media man-god Benedict Cumberbatch may play pioneering inventor Thomas Edison opposite Jake Gyllenhaal’s George Westinghouse in director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s The Current War, which examines the long-running feud between the two gentlemen. The film’s script by Michael Mitnick made the 2011 Black List (of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays). Gomez-Rejon’s next film, Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith, will shoots this autumn.

Ghostbusters

Paul-Feig

Paul Feig has some strong words for those who remain skeptical about his upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. “You all have no idea what we did, so stop acting like you do,” says the director on Twitter. “Enough is enough. Just let this movie happen. #enough.” Regarding the recent announcement of cameo appearances by the original film’s cast, Feig remarked, “Gang, everyone should know that any and all cameo announcements are leaks and nothing we wanted made public. Media, please take note. I only announced @Ernie_Hudson as a cameo because our set was overrun by paparazzi. I really wanted these cameos to be surprises. Just FYI.”

I feel Feig’s pain. While the original Ghostbusters is a masterpiece, and reboots are usually unnecessary cash grabs, there’s no reason for the fellow who directed Spy, one of the funniest mainstream comedies in years, to be subjected to the kind of criticism he’s been forced to undergo. #enough indeed.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Aquaman 2

With all the attention being paid lately to the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman we’ll be getting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, little has been said recently about Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. The actor has just chimed in, however, to reassures us that while his character will differ from DC’s traditional sea king, he will at least acknowledge his trademark colors:

Well, there might be some bit of orange and green. A bit of respect to prior work, but I think he is meaner now and upset – look at what has been done to our oceans. That’s his world that has been polluted.

Men in Black

Men in Black

Wondering as to the current status of Sony’s Men in Black franchise? Producer Walter Parkes says that he and his partner Laurie McDonald are “in the middle of it…It’s very active.” He added that Will Smith will most likely not be a part of the upcoming films. “It will be reinvented as a trilogy,” confirms McDonald.
