Movie Morsels: BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE’S Rating Promises “Violence and Sensuality”

Just how gritty will Warner Brothers’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice be? We have some indication in today’s Movie Morsels, along with news of a Halloween re-release, the trailer for The Forest, and updates on The Ring 3 and Tom Hanks‘ next project. Read on, my fellow Morselers. Read on.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Zack Snyder’s next superhero slugfest has earned a rating from the MPAA. Batman v Superman: Heroes Crack Necks Not Jokes, er, Dawn of Justice, will be PG-13 for “intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality.” Interesting how the sensuality is added as almost an afterthought, on top of, as The Onion helpfully points out, potential unlicensed chiropracty. Ah, the American way… Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Gal Gadot star in the March 25, 2016 release.

Halloween

Halloween

No, not the Rob Zombie-helmed remake, but John Carpenter’s original Halloween — perhaps the greatest slasher film ever made — gets a special one-night-only rerelease this Halloween. Or rather two days before the holiday, on Thursday, October 29th. Tickets can be bought at Fathomevents.com. Jamie Lee Curtis, Nick Castle, Nancy Loomis, P. J. Soles, and Donald Pleasence star.

The Forest

In other horror news, the full trailer for the The Forest, starring Natalie Dormer, has been released. The Game of Thrones star plays a young woman out to find her twin sister in a haunted forest in Japan. Taylor Kinney co-stars in the thriller, directed by Jason Zada and based on an idea by David S. Goyer. The film was shot on location in Tokyo and around the Aokigahara forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji, which has the creepy, unsettling nickname of “Suicide Forest” due to the amount of poor souls that chose to end their lives within its confines. The Forest opens on January 8, 2016.

Sully

Captain Phillips Tom Hanks

Remember airline Captain “Sully” Sullenberger, who managed to save the lives of all one hundred and fifty-five passengers when he steered his crippled plane into New York’s Hudson River back in 2009? Well, he’s the subject of Clint Eastwood’s next movie, Sully. And since no one loves playing real-life captains more than Tom Hanks (see Apollo 13, Captain Phillips), the Oscar-winning actor will take on the role of the heroic pilot. The film began production on Monday, September 28th at the Hudson itself. The film co-stars Aaron Eckhart as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Laura Linney as Sully’s wife, Lorraine. Based on the book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow, Sully‘s release date is TBD.

The Ring 3

"The 43 Peculiarity" -- Leonard (Johnny Galecki, left) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco, right) deal with jealousy in their relationship, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, Nov. 15 (8:00 – 8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The release date of the third film in Paramount’s Ringu remake trilogy has been pushed back from November 13 to 2016, most likely the third quarter. Directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez and starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, and The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, the film takes place thirteen years after the first installment in the franchise.
