Movie Morsels: BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Release Date Announced

It turns out that Star Wars news wasn’t the only thing that broke this May the Fourth. And in today’s Movie Morsels, we’ll bring you up to speed on all the other goodness we got. Including the latest on Batman: The Killing Joke, X-Men: Apocalypse, The Mummy reboot, the third Wolverine solo film, and more!

The Killing Joke

Batman The Killing Joke Teaser

If you’ve been hanging on the edge of your seat wondering when the R-rated animated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s fan-favorite one-shot The Killing Joke would finally get a release date, well, wonder no more. Warner Bros. has finally made the title available for pre-order on Amazon.com. The DVD and Blu-ray release will happen on August 2nd, with the film’s Digital HD bow a week prior, on July 23.

With actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill returning to their definitive roles as Batman and the Joker for this project, expect sales to go through the stratosphere. Or should I say…Bat-osphere? (Ouch!)

X-Men: Apocalypse

Oh yes, we have yet another new video featurette introducing one of the new mutant faces we’ll see in X-Men: Apocalypse. This time around, it’s the high-flying Angel’s turn to soar. British soap star Ben Hardy plays Warren Worthington III (in the comics, a founding member of the X-Men). Here, the actor discusses his transformation from Angel to Archangel, one of Apocalypse’s fearsome Horsemen…

The Mummy

The Nice Guys

Russell Crowe returns to theaters this summer in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys (pictured above), but the Aussie icon is already in talks for a project sure to garner even more attention: Universal’s reboot of The Mummy. If cast, Crowe would play Robert Louis Stevenson’s immortal Dr. Henry Jekyll, alter ego of the monstrous Mr. Hyde. Fun fact: the character also joins the lineup of fictional creatures in this season of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful!

Wolverine 3

Wolverine

Hot on the heels of news that Stephen Merchant and Boyd Holbrook have joined the cast of the third Wolverine solo film (and boy do I wish Fox would give this one a proper title, because Wolverine 3 just sounds kind of strange), comes word that ER star Eriq Lasalle has signed on. James Mangold returns to direct the Hugh Jackman starrer.

Abrams-produced sci-fi film Kolma, and the drama The Lost Wife, the Force Awakens hero will also be starring alongside Naomi Watts in Ophelia, a retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from the perspective of the tragic title character.

The Shallows

Finally today… We have a brand-new trailer for the thriller The Shallows, which finds surfer girl Blake Lively tangling with Earth’s oldest predator (a.k.a. a great white shark). Sony touts this one as “Jaws for a new generation.” Er, we’ll see…
