Terminator: Genisys

After unveiling its two exclusive covers devoted to the Alan Taylor-directed Terminator: Genisys, EW has unleashed a pile of other new images from the film, featuring all of the principal cast, including Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke, Matt Smith, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Sarah Connor’s crusty ol’ T-800, “Pops”. Ex Machina

Screenwriter Alex Garland has become a favorite of genre fans, with smart, suspenseful scripts for movies like 28 Days Later and Dredd to his credit. Now the scribe is preparing to make his feature film directorial debut with Ex Machina, a cerebral-looking sci-fi drama starring Oscar Isaac as the creator of a “highly advanced female artificial intelligence,” which he asks a programmer buddy (played by Domhnall Gleeson) to help evaluate. But does Isaac’s character have a secret agenda that could harm his friend? Ex Machina (which is unconnected to the DC comic of the same name) arrives in theaters on April 10th, 2015. Check out the film’s trailer below.

A Man in the Dark

Fede Alvarez

If you liked the recent Evil Dead remake and are still hoping for a sequel, well, you might be waiting a bit longer. But the good news is that all of the principal filmmakers behind the 2013 fright flick — including director Fede Alvarez (pictured above), executive producers Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, and writer Rodo Sayagues — are reuniting for another teens-in-trouble thriller, A Man in the Dark.

“The story centers on a trio of teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies and have targeted a reclusive blind man with millions of dollars in hiding. But as soon as they break into his home, the tables are turned and they find themselves fighting for survival against a psychopath.”

Skull Island

Tom Hiddleston

Last month we learned that everyone’s favorite trickster Tom Hiddleston would be starring in Skull Island, Legendary’s spinoff of King Kong about the Eighth Wonder’s jungle home. Today we’re hearing that Oscar-nominated Flight screenwriter John Gatins has been hired to rewrite Max Borenstein’s script for the November 4th, 2016 release. Hopefully Gatins will make sure the film is packed full of enough giant prehistoric beast fights to make the wait worthwhile.

The Godmother

Jon Bernthal

After starring alongside Brad Pitt in the World War II thriller Fury (now in theaters), former Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal has just lined up his next film project. Bernthal will co-star with Catherine Zeta-Jones when the Chicago star plays one of the most infamously powerful women of the twentieth century in The Godmother, a biopic about Griselda Blanco. Known as “The Godmother of Cocaine,” Blanco “instigated and fueled many of the Miami drug wars that took place during the late 70s and 80s and grossed millions of dollars a month. She was arrested and convicted in 1985 in California and served 18 years in prison before she was released in 2004 and deported back to Colombia.” No word yet on who Bernthal will play, but actors Catalina Sandino   Moreno, Oscar Jaenada, and Mehdi Dehbi have also just signed on for the project.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

And speaking of powerful women… There’s been a deluge of movie news from Marvel this week, so let’s end with something from the DC front. Bleeding Cool has stated they’ve learned the 2017 Wonder Woman solo movie starring Gal Gadot will be the first of three films to feature the Amazon warrior, each set in a completely different era. Surprisingly, the first film is said to take place in the 1920s — and see Princess Diana leave her family on Paradise Island for America with a man who is not Steve Trevor — while the second film would occur in the 1940s (when the character was first created and introduced in comics), and the third in the present day. Please keep in mind that all of this should be filed firmly under “Rumors” until more is revealed. What we can assume is that the most famous female superhero in history has some interesting times ahead of her.
