Surprisingly, none of the modern films like Frozen made the cut. And when it came to determining the winner, there was only one king.
Via Entertainment Weekly, CableTV posted its breakdown of the most popular Disney movies by state. The Lion King easily came out on top with support from 16 states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
Tied in a distant second place are The Little Mermaid, winning in Arizona, Florida, Nevada, and Texas, and Bambi, which occupies a soft spot in the hearts of Alaska, Maryland, Virginia, and Oklahoma.
Next, The Aristocats has support in Minnesota, Missouri, and Tennessee, and Robin Hood had bi-coastal appeal in Maine, New Hampshire, and Oregon. Also scoring three states, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh warmed hearts in Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Washington. Silly old bear!
On the other end of the spectrum, Mulan was Hawaii’s top choice, while Lady and the Tramp and Fantasia were also outlier choices in Delaware and Mississippi, respectively. New York claimed Dumbo as its own, 101 Dalmatians reigned in Vermont, Sleeping Beauty camped out in Idaho, Hercules went the distance in Wyoming, Pocahontas took Arkansas, and Snow White topped the lot in West Virginia.
