Whether you’re a big Steve Coogan fan or are completely unacquainted with one of the funniest people from the U.K. (although you’ve probably been hearing his name lately because of his critically acclaimed film Philomena, but I’d hope you would have known him from Hamlet 2), you should be getting excited over the 2014 release of both Alan Partridge and The Trip to Italy here in the States.
Alan Partridge (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa in the U.K.) follows Coogan’s longtime character (created by himself and Veep/The Thick of It creator Armando Ianucci), lovingly overbearing radio DJ and former TV host and sportscaster Alan Partridge, who’s being held hostage, and The Trip to Italy is a sequel to his and Rob Brydon’s 2010 film The Trip, a rare instance in which two guys simply talking about whatever they want to talk about turns out to be pretty damn funny.
Trailers for Alan Partridge (due in theaters April 4th; it’s on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.K. now) and The Trip to Italy (release date to come) are here:
