Mondo Unveils SPIDER-GWEN Poster for ‘Snikt Bamf Thwip: A Celebration Of Marvel Comics’

Later this week, the world famous Mondo gallery in Austin, Texas is putting on a new showcase for Snikt Bamf Thwip: A Celebration Of Marvel Comics. And in the lead up to the new exhibit, Mondo has revealed the latest addition to its lineup of Marvel posters: Spider-Gwen!

For most of her existence, Gwen Stacy was famous for being Spider-Man’s dead girlfriend. In fact, the death of Gwen Stacy is widely viewed as the end of the Silver Age of comics. Actress Emma Stone was the second woman to portray Gwen Stacy in live-action in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, but her version of the character met the same fate as her comic book counterpart.

However, the trajectory for Gwen Stacy changed during the Spider-Verse crossover in 2014. Writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez were tasked with creating a Gwen Stacy from an alternate world where she was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. In her world, Gwen became Spider-Woman. But fans instantly embraced her as “Spider-Gwen,” and her popularity has led to two Spider-Gwen ongoing series.

The Spider-Gwen Mondo poster was created by Phantom City Creative, and it does an excellent job of recreating Rodriguez’s fan-favorite costume design for Spider-Gwen.

Several other pieces from Mondo’s Snikt Bamf Thwip: A Celebration Of Marvel Comics have already been released, including two Wolverine posters by Tom Whalen, two Daredevil posters by Matthew Woodson, Thor and Loki by Matt Taylor, Spider-Man by Chris Skinner, Thanos by Mike Mitchell, and Becky Cloonan’s take on Dark Phoenix. You can see all of those in our gallery below!

Snikt Bamf Thwip: A Celebration Of Marvel Comics will open at Mondo’s gallery on December 11 and run through December 19. The Marvel posters will be available for purchase in extremely limited quantities.
