Mondo to Release WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER Soundtrack on Vinyl

MONDO is one of our favorite online stores, mostly because they rebirth old film soundtracks just when we were about to forget about them (which would have been a travesty!). A couple weeks ago, they announced that the scores for three David Cronenberg soundtracks would be getting their first vinyl fix, and today, to celebrate its 15th anniversary, they’re reviving all our favorite music from Camp Firewood. That’s right, in collaboration with Rusted Wave Records, MONDO is bringing the Wet Hot American Summer Soundtrack to vinyl, marking the first time the score has ever been available on any format.

The LP will include music by Craig Wedren and Theodore Shapiro, as well as original tunes by Peter Salett, Craig Wedren and Mr. Blue & Chubb Rock. “Just like in the endless single day captured in the film,” MONDO Music Production Manager Mo Shafeek says of the soundtrack, “it feels like sun will be up above the clouds forever.”

Indeed it’s the kind of music that makes us feel at home in those outrageous woods where talking cans of vegetables, space debris, and counselor negligence are everyday occurrences. “The best magical thing about Wet Hot is there is absolutely no reason why those ingredients work with that random collage of components,” Craig Wedren told Nerdist before the Wet Hot reboot last year. “Like the nerdy robot kid creating something that we don’t even know what’s going on, and there’s this music playing at the end of the talent show. Somehow it is utterly hilarious and emotional at the same time, and could not be more absurd.”

For all of us that like to feel absurd and campy and nostalgic for an ’80s experience we never actually experienced, this one’s for us. Housed in a gatefold jacket and aptly pressed on Campfire colored vinyl, Wet Hot American Summer will also include a digital download card and a Mondo Exclusive Colorway. Pre-order it here for $27 and, when you get it, put it right next to your d*ck cream—orders ship in July.
