We’re all very excited to see Bruce Campbell continue his deadite-fighting ways in Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead premiering on Halloween night (WEEN!), but we’re even more excited by all the great love for Ash’s previous outing, Army of Darkness, happening this week. First we had a brand new Blu-ray from Scream Factory, which I reviewed here, and now we’ve also got a sweet vinyl release of the soundtrack coming at us from Mondo, the fine purveyors of genre movie soundtracks with gorgeous album art.

The artwork for this release is by Richey Beckett and, as you can see, it’s got an explosion of skeletons and evil folk climbing out of the Necronomicon while our hero looks awesome brandishing his trademark boomstick. The music from the 1993 movie was composed by Joseph LoDuca, with the “March of the Dead Theme” written by none other than Danny Elfman. The vinyl features the music performed by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. For those who know about such things, it’s been pressed on Baby Blue & Black Vortex Swirl in the hefty 180 gram that collectors love. You can order it beginning Wednesday, October 28 for $35. It’s limited to 1,000 copies, though, so act faster than not.

Also out this week from Mondo, if you’re interested, are vinyl soundtracks for Enzo G. Castellari’s Mad Max copy, The New Barbarians, with music by Goblin frontman Claudio Simonetti, and a split 12″ of Slasher Film Festival Strategy and Antoni Maiovvi.

There’s truly no better way to breeze into the Halloween season than by listening to some great horror scores, and though Army of Darkness‘ music tends more toward the heroic and adventurous, it’s still got plenty of that baroque creepiness that’ll put you in the mood.
