Mondo Releases BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Theme On Die-Cut 12-Inch Vinyl

Forget Christian Bale and Chris Nolan, Michael Keaton and Tim Burton, or even Frank Miller; everyone knows that the truly greatest Batman is the one from Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s seminal Batman: The Animated Series which ran from 1992-99 in various incarnations. Now Mondo is helping to celebrate the Dark Knight’s 75th Anniversary in style, with an all-new vinyl pressing of the show’s original theme song from composer Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo), as well as the end credits music. (Side-A will have the opening title and end credits as they appeared in the show, Side-B will have alternate versions.) This will be a 12″ die-cut version of the single, in the shape of the bat-signal, and it will come housed in a gatefold jacket designed by Phantom City Creative, and will be pressed on Black and Black with Gray Splatter vinyl.

Earlier this year, Mondo released Batman: The Animated Series 7-inches for San Diego Comic-Con, featuring five villains from the show (Harley, Joker, Mr. Freeze, Man-Bat, and Clayface) with artwork by Mike Mitchell, Tom Whalen, Alan Hynes, Matt Taylor & Gary Pullin. The 7-inches were a huge success, so Mondo is following them up with even more Batman product. But if fans want to get a copy of this one before the Holidays, they’d better get on it–to fulfill as many orders as possible before the holidays, Mondo have already pressed 1,000 copies of each version that are ready to ship out in the next few weeks, and once those copies are accounted for, the record will become a Pre-Order that will be re-pressed and shipped out after the New Year.

  1. Tara Melos says:

This is a wonderful product, but for Mr. Diaz to describe a tv show as the best Batman makes me question his nerdhood. It is an insult to Batman’s creators, and the realm of comic books, because no show can compete with the Batman written by Frank Miller.

    • Nick Woodfin says:

I like to think that TAS creators wrote their Batman with Miller’s interpretation in mind.  If you were to check back in with the Batman from TAS, JL, and JLU when he was in his 50s, I bet he’d be pretty close to the Batman in Dark Knight Returns.

  2. This might be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
