WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR Trailer Looks Back at Mister Rogers’ Legacy

Fred Rogers passed away 15 years ago, but his legacy as the host and creator of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood continues to live on. This summer, Rogers will be the subject of Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, a new documentary that takes a look back at his life and his influential children’s TV series. No one is perfect, not even Mister Rogers, but the trailer illustrates just how important it was to Rogers to spread kindness in the world. Within the context of his long-running PBS series, Rogers was able to educate his audience without flinching away from difficult topics like death and racism.

This trailer is well timed, as today, March 20, would have been Rogers’ 90th birthday. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? was directed by Morgan Neville, and it offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Rogers’ five decades in public broadcasting with interviews, archival footage, and even clips of Rogers himself as he explains his philosophy and why he choose the medium of television to spread his message.

In the following clip from the movie, Rogers shares his belief that “love is at the root of everything. All learning. All parenting. All relationships. Love or the lack of it.” Rogers took that idea to heart, and the love he had for his viewers was demonstrated in every episode.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? will receive a limited release in theaters on Friday, June 8.
