Mission Log #34 – Episode 034 – The Apple

How are things for the people of Vaal? Well, they seem good, but not good enough for Captain Kirk. Hitting up another side of “This Side of Paradise,” we’re putting “The Apple” in the Mission Log.

  1. Joe says:

I don’t think this angle was considered in the episode at all: The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. Should CPT Kirk have allowed 400 people to burn up and the landing party to be slaughtered by a a group of twenty people whose sole purpose for the last 10,000 or so years is feed a machine?

Of course we would learn later that the Prime Directive says yes. If Kirk allowed that, then the Federation would send another ship to investigate the loss of the Enterprise. That ship would probably be destroyed as well.

Who knows, maybe Vaal could decide that instead of waiting for threats to come to him, that he should leave the planet to eradicate potential threats first.

All that to protect 20 people whose only real thought is to throw Pop Rocks down a hole.

    Just saying.
