New MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION Trailer: Not Even Death Can Stop Ethan Hunt

The second trailer for Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation film has released, and it seems to have pumped some more adrenaline into it this time. Not to say the first one didn’t have pulse-pounding moments, but this new trailer sells much more of the popcorn fun and adventure the film will offer instead of the twisting espionage plot points. It also proves that Tom Cruise‘s Ethan Hunt is basically a superhero — if we didn’t already assume it.

Other than showing off some more cool gadgets — like the device that seems to atomize windows — and the build up of Hunt diving into some sort of pressurized water-vortex from stupidly high, the trailer offers longer looks at some of the action scenes that got jumbled into a montage in the first trailer. Seriously, though, is this a thing? How do I get one?

Having to follow up after directors like John Woo, JJ Abrams, and Brad Bird has to be more than a little intimidating, but the trailer shows Christopher McQuarrie has been able to keep pace. Known more for his writing capabilities in Hollywood, with credits like The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie to his name, McQuarrie has still been able to prove himself as a capable director. He obviously caught the eye of Tom Cruise, who he directed in Jack Reacher in 2013, since it was Cruise who requested that McQuarrie be brought on as director when Brad Bird passed. Expect to see a flood of material for this movie in the coming month now that the release has been bumped up from December to July.
