Tom Cruise Reveals MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6’s Title and Latest Insane Stunt

While filming for the sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise is well underway, details on the film have largely been kept under wraps. That is, until Thursday morning, when Tom Cruise took to his Instagram to drop a few, fun kernels about the upcoming film.

The first M:I6 kernel was the film’s official name, so we can all finally have the option of referring to it as something other than M:I6. I’ll be honest… it does not really give us a ton of info about what to expect in the movie.

Get ready. #MissionImpossible

But the really fun part about any Mission: Impossible movie is the fantastic stunts that Cruise insists on performing himself. As Ethan Hunt, Cruise has fought bad guys in helicopters from the top of a fast-moving train in a tunnel; he’s defied gravity while climbing a mountain with no harness; he’s scrambled into an airplane as it was taking off; and he’s climbed up the side of the world’s tallest skyscraper. So what death-defying stunt does Cruise have in store for us with Fallout? He gave us a sneak peek on Instagram.

As Cruise puts it, they’ve “upped the ante” for Mission: Impossible – Fallout. While it’s not terribly clear in the picture, the helicopter doesn’t appear to have a pilot… which is not a great thing for air travel. Of course, even if there is a pilot, the way Cruise’s hair is blowing in the wind makes it look like the craft is climbing at a pretty dramatic rate, and we don’t know if Ethan is simply hitching a ride on the helicopter as it climbs, or if he was thrown from it. Either way, it’s a dangerous situation for Ethan Hunt… and the actual Tom Cruise.

Though the franchise has been around since 1996, the last Mission: Impossible film, Rogue Nation, really breathed new life into the franchise. Introducing Rebecca Ferguson‘s character Ilsa Faust as someone meant to be more than Ethan’s designated love interest was a rather refreshing change to the series. We’re so happy that she’ll be returning in the next film, and we can’t wait to see what adventures Ethan and his team are up to next. If the image Cruise posted to his Instagram is any indication, it’s going to be just as action-packed as we’ve all come to expect from Mission: Impossible films.

What do you think of Cruise’s big stunt from Mission: Impossible – Fallout? Tell us your thoughts about the movie in the comments!
