Have you ever wanted to be up close and personal with a Creeper? Um, of course not! But regardless of how you feel about the ole green ‘sploders of joy, you’ll be able to run away from (or towards) them in virtual reality when Minecraft comes to Oculus units running Windows 10 next spring. The VR company announced this before a live audience in Los Angeles at their Oculus Connect 2 event. This news has been regarded as a shock to many who’ve been keeping up with the wide range of platforms that the Minecraft IPÂ is on.
But is it really a surprise that Minecraft is being utilized in the VR space? Maybe, if you consider that not only does Microsoft own Minecraft, this partnership could also cannibalize the appeal of the HoloLens, Microsoft’s Augmented Reality headset. Then again, Oculus is working very closely with Microsoft, bundling the retail units with Xbox One controllers. Perhaps you could run around your HoloLens-constructed Minecraft world in your Oculus headset. Microsoft is literally building an alternate reality empire before our very eyes.
Are you excited about Minecraft hitting the Oculus? Are you brave enough to venture to The Nether through the perspective of a VR headset? Dig on down into the comments and plant your thoughts below.
