Well, Halloween is over so that means it’s Christmastime, yeah? I mean, when else would a movie about Santa Claus come out? But that’s precisely the point; nobody knows what Santa Claus does the rest of the year, and he should be talked about in May or August the same amount as in December. It’s this period of time that sits at the center of Tommy Avellone’s new documentary I Am Santa Claus, about how the various people who are Santas at Christmas live their lives the rest of the year. Their bellies still shake like bowls full of jelly, but they might not be particularly St. Nickish otherwise.
Part of what the documentary, presented by Morgan Spurlock, will focus on is WWE superstar Mick “Mankind” Foley, a man who likes dressing up like Santa, attempting to become like these other year-round Kringles. Can he do it? Is there enough beard dye in the world? But, since the other Santas spend their years working as tax examiners, sex club staffers, and beef BBQers, Mick will probably fit right in. Have a look!
I Am Santa Claus will be hitting cinemas for one day only, this Tuesday, November 4th, at select Landmark Theatres in 14 cities nationwide (you can see the complete list here), but it will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and iTunes download on November 11th, and then it’ll be on Netflix streaming on November 25th. So, really, there’s no reason not to watch what Santas do when all the cookies and milk have been drunk. Speaking of drunk, that one guy sure loves St. Patrick’s Day, huh?
