Michelle Forbes Joins THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY

The cast for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (whew, that’s a mouthful) keeps expanding, and the latest recruit for the final film in the Hunger Games story is Michelle Forbes. The Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: The Next Generation alumnus will be taking the role of Lieutenant Jackson. In the books by Suzanne Collins, Jackson was a soldier from District 13.

Forbes is joining a formidable line-up of characters in the franchise. In addition to leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, Mockingjay – Part 2 also features the likes of Natalie Dormer, Julianne Moore, and Gwendoline Christie. If the film keeps close to the book source, we can expect to see Forbes and Dormer on screen together as their characters Jackson and Cressida work together to band against the Capitol of Panem.

While I wouldn’t say Lieutenant Jackson is hard-nosed, she does have the mentality of a soldier. She has a job to do and doesn’t back down from giving orders even if it means standing against Katniss. Given what we saw of Forbes as Admiral Cain in Battlestar Galactica, I feel confident that she’s ideal for the role.

She has a commanding presence and can undoubtedly portray a leader. Plus, Jackson was described as middle-aged in the story, and it’s an important contrast to show in the story. We need to see an experienced, older soldier opposite of Katniss’ naiveté. I can’t wait to see her acting alongside Lawrence and Dormer. Insert comment about awesome women in meaty roles here.

Mockingjay – Part 2 will be out on November 20, 2015.
