MEN IN BLACK/21 JUMP STREET Crossover Gets a (Very Obvious) Title

Maybe I’m in the minority on this one, but I think the upcoming crossover film between Men in Black and 21 Jump Street is a great idea. They’re both fun franchises that are full of action, and if you’re going to add any characters from the non-alien world into the Men in Black universe of intergalactic police, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are pretty terrific choices. It’s a super creative idea that should keep both of the properties fresh.

Unfortunately, the title the movie just got is about as uncreative as possible. In Las Vegas at CinemaCon 2016, Sony announced the name of the movie will be MIB 23.

Did they forget to schedule the meeting where they were going to discuss the title? Was this just the working title for obvious reasons, and then it just stuck around and people forgot to actually… work on it? I guess at the very least it is clear and concise, and it does have internal rhyme, which is always good.

It’s just that it sounds like one of those lazy celebrity couple nicknames, only not as clever/awful.

So long as the movie (which is expected to have Channing and Hill reprise their roles as Jenko and Schmidt, but not Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as the Men in Black agents) is a winner, we’ll remember that a rose by any other name…

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who co-directed the two Jump Street films, have signed on as producers. For months reports have said Sony wants James Bobin to direct, but nothing is official on that front yet.

Okay, so what would you have named the movie? Give us your best, most creative titles in the comments below.

And for all the science of the Men in Black, see what our own Kyle Hill had to say about it…
