UPDATE, 9/24/18 – Official word has it that Kingsman 3 will be coming our way sooner rather than later. Entertainment Weekly reports that Matthew Vaughn will write and direct one final chapter in the story of Eggsy and Harry Hart, and that the film is planned for release on November 8, 2019. Jane Goldman, who wrote the first two Kingsman films with Vaughn, will likewise co-author this new installment.
6/8/18 –Â Matthew Vaughn‘s collaboration with comic book writer Mark Millar resulted in two different film franchises: Kingsman and Kick-Ass, both of which have spawned sequels. And according to Vaughn, he is far from finished with either property.
While speaking with Empire Magazine, Vaughn shared his ambitious plans to carry Kinsgman forward after the second movie, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Vaughn revealed that he plans to shoot two Kingsman movies back-to-back; including Kingsman: The Great Game, a spin-off prequel movie that will take place in the early 1900s. The other movie would essentially be Kingsman 3, which will depict âthe conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationshipâ that began in the first film. Vaughn also indicated that there may be an eight-hour Kingsman TV show or even a spin-off film about Statesman, the American spy organization introduced in The Golden Circle.
As for Kick-Ass, the second movie didn’t quite do well enough to earn a direct sequel. That may be why Vaughn described his plans as a reboot of the series, while hinting that the next sequel could follow Patience Lee. In the latest incarnation of the comic, Patience is an African-American woman who took up the Kick-Ass role. A solo Hit-Girl movie is also on Vaughn’s agenda, which may catch up with the title character when she is older or focus on her origin and her training under her father, Big Daddy. âLook what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues,â said Vaughn.
If Vaughn elects to go with a Patience Lee-led Kick-Ass film, that would potentially allow Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s Dave Lizewski to return at some point. Similarly, an older Hit-Girl movie would be ideal for Chloë Grace Moretz, if she is interested in reprising her role, of course.
