War is coming to the Planet of the Apes. Now, 20th Century Fox and director Matt Reeves are giving fans the opportunity to stand side-by-side with Caesar in the upcoming War For The Planet of the Apes.
During last nightâs episode of The Walking Dead, Reeves and returning star Andy Serkis briefly explained the contest. Fans have been invited to submit videos of their most life-like ape imitations to ApesContest.com. One winner will be chosen to portray an ape in War For The Planet of the Apes, with a free trip to the set and the chance to wear a motion-capture performance suit while filming scenes for the movie.
Production on War For The Planet of the Apes has already begun, and the new contest video included a few brief seconds from the third film of the rebooted franchise. Serkis will reprise his role as Ape leader, Caesar, while Judy Greer will return as Cornelia, Caesarâs mate. New additions to the cast include Woody Harrelson as the filmâs primary human antagonist, with Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Gabriel Chavarria, Amiah Miller, and Terry Notary also starring in the movie.
At the conclusion of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar was forced to break his own law against killing a fellow ape, but it was too late to stop a war with the remnants of humanity. The closing moments of that film featured Caesar bracing himself for the conflict ahead as the other apes kneeled before him. Itâs not clear when War For The Planet of the Apes begins, but the title certainly implies that the final battle between ape and man has arrived.
War For The Planet of the Apes will open on July 14, 2017.
