Marvel’s Original Guardians of the Galaxy Return This October in GUARDIANS 3000

Before the Guardians of the Galaxy were Rocket Raccoon, Star Lord, Drax and Gamora, and before they had a multi-million dollar movie made about them, for several decades they were the answer to DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes–a team of heroes set 1000 years from now, inspired by the famous heroes of the 20th Century. They even had their own successful series from Marvel by writer/artist Jim Valentino that ran for 62 issues, from 1990-1995. Eventually a “modern day” version of the Guardians was introduced, and that’s the version that really took off with fans and will be hitting movie theaters later this summer.

But Marvel knows there is a solid fan-base who grew up with the original Guardians, and this October, the original team returns in Guardians 3000 – a brand-new new series written by Guardians of the Galaxy writer Dan Abnett and fan-favorite artist Gerardo Sandoval. Guardians 3000 is going to reintroduce the original team to the Marvel Universe, with an all-new mission. Original members Vance Astro, Yondu, Starhawk, Martinex and Charlie-27 all return for this new series, which follows the group of freedom fighters as they battle to gain control of the galaxy back from alien armies of the Badoon.

According to Marvel, “the Badoon are just the tip of the iceberg. The Marvel Universe of the 31st Century is a hostile and unforgiving place – with both new & classic foes from throughout Marvel history. A new threat has emerged disrupting the timestream in the past and the present, and it’s up to the original Guardians of the Galaxy to prevent the collapse of all reality! But to save the future, one must look to the past – and the discovery of a mysterious young girl named Geena Drake could hold the key to saving all reality…or destroying it!” Marvel Executive Editor Mike Marts says “Guardians 3000 is truly a case of you asked for it, we delivered!”

The first issue of Guardians 3000 by Dan Abnett and Gerado Sandoval hits comic shops and digital devices this October.
