Marvel’s JESSICA JONES May Return to Comics Soon

Less than a year ago, Marvel Comics’ ex-superhero-turned-P.I. Jessica Jones was a little-known character who had a brief ongoing series back in the early 2000s: Alias, by Brian Michael Bendis. Since then, she’s made sporadic appearances in other comics like The Pulse, where she was part of an ensemble, as well as New Avengers. After awhile, most Marvel fans came to know her simply as Luke Cage’s wife.

But thanks to Marvel’s excellent Jessica Jones series on Netflix — arguably one of the highest quality things that Marvel has ever produced — we now see more fans of the character than ever before, many of whom would want to see more of her. Which begs the question, when is Jessica getting her very own comic again?

Well, according to Marvel Comics editor Tom Brevoort, it might be happening sooner than you’d think. While appearing on a panel at this past weekend’s C2E2 convention in Chicago, a fan asked if Jessica Jones would ever headline her own comic book again. Brevoort then confirmed Jessica’s upcoming appearances in both Civil War II as well as the Choosing Sides anthology, and shared that there indeed have been talks about bringing the character back in her own book. He told fans, “Without saying anything, Brian Bendis in particular has been having an itch to get back to the character and he’s walked me through what the next storyline would be and it’s awesome. Once he’s got Civil War II off his back, it’s not impossible that we’d say lets do a Jessica book, whether it’s Jessica Jones or Alias or The Pulse, or we come up with another name for it. Definitely something we want to do.”

That’s hardly a release date or even a full creative team, but if Bendis is intent on bringing her back in her own series, then it’s a sure bet Marvel will let him do it, especially after the success of the TV series. And it doesn’t need a title like Alias or anything else — thanks to the show, Jessica Jones is a household word. There’s your title right there, Marvel.
