Last month, Marvelâs Iron Fist series on Netflix named Scott Buck as the showrunner and signaled that the long-simmering project is finally coming together. And if the latest rumors are true, Iron Fist may be further along than previously believed.
In a new interview about the Jessica Jones series, Luke Cage star Mike Colter indicated that an actor has already been chosen to play Iron Fist. âThe actor has been cast, but heâs in a basement somewhere,â Colter told Collider. âWhen the time is right, theyâll let him up and tell him where he is. I am [excited]. Iâll get a nice little break, after doing Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Whether Iâm in [his show], I donât know, but thereâs The Defenders.â
The early casting of Iron Fist and Colterâs awareness of it seems to suggest that Iron Fist may appear in Luke Cage before debuting in his own Netflix series. Given the friendship and partnership that the two characters share in Marvelâs comic book universe, it would make sense to introduce them in the MCU before their eventual team up with Jessica Jones and Daredevil in The Defenders.
Another rumor making the rounds is that Jessica Jones writer Scott Reynolds is moving over to Iron Fist and reuniting with Buck. Reynolds and Buck previously worked together on Showtimeâs Dexter. The rumor was originally posted by Heroic Hollywood, which noted that Reynolds had updated his twitter profile to include his Iron Fist credit. That profile has since been changed, but the screencap can be found in the original report.
Marvel and Netflix have yet to set a date for the premiere of Iron Fist, but a 2017 debut seems likely.
