Marvel’s DAMAGE CONTROL Coming to ABC as a Sitcom

The television side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, as ABC has announced plans to bring the little-known cult comic book Damage Control to TV as the first ever Marvel half-hour, single-camera sitcom that would follow the overworked and underpaid clean-up crew of the Marvel Universe.

Damage Control was originally a limited series from the late eighties, created by the late Dwayne McDuffie and artist Ernie Colon, that followed a fictional construction company which specialized in repairing the property damage caused by all those massive superhero battles that seemed to occur on a daily basis in Marvel’s New York City. Since that original mini-series, three others featuring the group have been published by Marvel.

It doesn’t appear that the new TV version will stray too far from the source material. According to the series description:

The Marvel cleaning crew specializes in dealing with the aftermath of the unique fallout from super hero conflicts. They are the ones who are in charge of returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, help to reschedule a wedding venue after it has been vaporized in a super hero battle or even track down a missing prize African parrot that’s been turned to stone or goo. Sometimes the most important super heroes are the ones behind the scenes — and that’s who Damage Control will follow.

The new series is being developed by Ben Karlin, whose credits include The Daily Show and Modern Family. Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce has long been a fan of the Damage Control comics, and has often said he’d love to bring it to life, but doesn’t seem to be involved with this version. Hopefully he’ll at least get to write an episode one day if this ends up getting a series commitment.

The original article at Variety also mentions that the Mockingbird centric spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. called Marvel’s Most Wanted is still being developed, as well as a top-secret project from American Crime creator John Ridley featuring Marvel characters.
