This weekend on Netflix, Marvelâs Jessica Jones is kicking all kinds of ass, and the stage has been set for Luke Cageâs series next year. Throw in Daredevil Season 2, and things look bright for 3 out of the 4 heroes slated to get their own shows on Netflix.
But whatâs happening with Iron Fist? Thereâs been no word on a showrunner, nor has the title character been cast yet. Last summer, a rumor suggested that Marvel TV would shelve the Iron Fist series because of creative problems and the companyâs inability to reconcile the mystical side of Iron Fist with the more grounded world created for Netflix. It was suggested that The Punisher would become the fourth Marvel TV show on Netflix, with Iron Fist relegated to a made-for-Netflix movie. Netflix is pushing towards higher profile original films, so an Iron Fist movie wasnât a far-fetched idea.
However, Marvel TVâs Jeph Loeb made Iron Fist‘s fate very clear in a new interview with CBR. “There was a lot of speculation about what was going on with Iron Fist, because [fans] hadn’t heard anything about it, but there’s never been any change at all.” Loeb was also asked about the casting and showrunner for Iron Fist, to which he replied âthe short answer is, ‘yes, there’ll be news.'”
Iron Fist was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane during the ’70s martial arts craze. In Marvelâs comic book universe, Iron Fist is Danny Rand, an American who was raised in the mythical city of Kâun-Lâun. While living there, Rand was trained to become a warrior and he gained the power of the Iron Fist. Madame Gao from Daredevil Season 1 is widely rumored to be connected to Kâun-Lâun and the mythos of Iron Fist.
