Marvel Pits X-Men Against Inhumans In DEATH OF X

For weeks, Marvel has teased the upcoming Death of X with variant covers featuring its iconic X-Men meeting gruesome fates. Now, the full details of the project have been revealed and it looks like at least one prominent Mutant hero is going down for the count!

Entertainment Weekly broke the story that Death of X will be a four-issue miniseries starting in October that will take place during the eight month gap between Secret Wars and the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe. The miniseries will feature art by Aaron Kuder, and it will be co-written by Extraordinary X-Men scribe Jeff Lemire and Charles Soule, the writer of Uncanny Inhumans. The story will explore the dramatic reversal of fortune for the Mutants and the Inhumans, as well as the apparent demise of Cyclops, one of the very first X-Men.

“We’ll definitely see some characters who have been missing in action since the series launch,” said Lemire while speaking to EW. “We’ll answer the question of where certain mutants have been, and what’s happened to them. Cyclops is the big one, he’s the one we’ve said was dead and that’s all we’ve really said. His death was very controversial, so obviously that’ll be a big part of the story we’re telling here.”

Whether Cyclops is truly dead remains to be seen, but this is very likely to be a prologue to a much larger X-Men vs. Inhumans story. Presumably that will be saved for later in 2017. And we’d be willing to bet that Emma Frost will be making her return in this story as well. Each issue of Death of X will be bi-weekly, which means the fourth and final issue will be released in November.
