Are you ready to Ragna-rok? Hasbro certainly is, if the god-sized box set of Norse warriors heading straight to Comic-Con International this year is any indication. While hype continues to build for the next big-screen Thor outing, San Diego’s massive gathering of fandom will be the perfect place to purchase figures based on the recent comic arcs–we’re pleased to debut a first look at the collection right here. Jane Foster Thor! Malekith! Ulik the troll! And that’s not all…
Original Thor is here under the name of “Odinson,” as is his grandfather Bor, whose relationship with our favorite blond rabble-rouser has been contentious at best over the years (for instance, Thor has killed him at least once, but he keeps coming back). Malekith, as you my remember from the movies, is a Dark Elf, aligned with rock troll Ulik, whose feud with the Odinson goes way back.
In what may be a nod to the military might of Earth, the box folds into a pentagon.
Fold it out to reveal the beginnings of an epic poem (click the image to enlarge to a comfortable reading level), not to mention detailed images of demonic skulls being cracked, courtesy of artist Tyler Jacobson.
Each figure comes with a weapon, and 30ish points of articulation. If I had to guess, based on past Comic-Con Marvel Legends box sets, I’d suspect a redecoed Ulik may be a build-a-figure in some future wave (Dormammu, Abomination, and Sandman all came to Comic-Con exclusive sets first), so grabbing him in this group for $99.99 is a solid deal if you’re a fan of huge Marvel trolls.
Are you ready to battle the San Diego crowds to score an Asgardian army? A place in toy collector Valhalla awaits all who do, or even those who manage to score leftover stock on HasbroToyShop.com. Reveal thy plans for purchasing, forsooth, in yon comments section below!
