Marvel Jumps Ahead 8 Months After SECRET WARS

Buckle up, True Believers, because after the dust settles on Battleworld, the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe is going to be very different, according to Executive Editor Tom Brevoort.

While speaking to Marvel.com, Brevoort confirmed that every Marvel Universe comic after Secret Wars will leap ahead 8 months to set up brand new status quos across the line.

“In the same way that events jumped forward in time eight months in Avengers and New Avengers during the lead-up to Secret Wars, so too when we enter the new Marvel Universe eight months will have passed for all of the characters as well,” said Brevoort. “This provides our creators, even apart from Secret Wars, to drop into exciting new situations and status quos on the fly. So look for surprises and mysteries and changes galore as series resume in the new MU.”

This is similar to the strategy that DC Comics used in its One Year Later relaunch out of Infinite Crisis in 2006. And as Brevoort noted above, Marvel has already used a time jump during Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run.

Brevoort also confirmed reports that A-Force, the Maestro, the Howling Commandos, and Weirdworld will all be sticking around after Secret Wars is finished.

“As we’ve been saying, the building blocks of the new MU are being established throughout the various Secret Wars titles, with every series contributing something to the new MU,” continued Brevoort. “Whether that something is a character, a place, an environment, an object, a status quo, or any other thing that you might think of.”

Uncanny X-Men 600
In other Marvel news, Brian Michael Bendis took to his Tumblr account to address a rumor on Bleeding Cool about the delay of Uncanny X-Men #600. The milestone issue will wrap up Bendis’ nearly three year stint on the X-Men titles.

“It was bumped until after Secret Wars for editorial and commercial reasons,” explained Bendis. “Not my call. This was Marvel. But they have their reasons…It will not [affect] the story or the impact of the story. In fact it may have more impact on how things shake out after my run. But I promise you, it could easily ship this month as it was supposed to. It has been written. pages are already in as many of the collaborators have said so on Twitter.”

Bendis added that Uncanny X-Men # 34 will be out this Wednesday, with Uncanny X-Men # 35 “right behind.”
