Another day, another round of Marvel casting news. Hey, they’re firing up about a million television series these days, so it’s to be expected. Today’s TV-Cap brings news about who’s been signed on as Black Bolt in Inhumans, another X-Men pilot addition, word about a TV deal for Neil Gaiman, and more.
Leading Inhuman. You don’t have to wonder about who will play Black Bolt in Marvel’s Inhumans any longer. Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) has nabbed the lead role. The series will focus on the adventures of the royal family, which means as King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt should have a sizable role. Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb said about Mount: “His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.” [Nerdist]
Co-Lead. Let’s stay in the Marvel arena for a moment because Fox’s untitled X-Men pilot has added another lead: Sean Teale (Incorporated) will play Marcos Diaz, a.k.a. Eclipse. The mutant has been created specifically for this series and has the ability to manipulate and absorb photons. [Deadline]
Cats in Space. What happens when you combine Star Trek and cats? Looking Back. I’m sorry if this will be a shock to your system, but this week brings the 20th anniversary of MTV’s Daria. I know. The smart series lasted for five seasons and left a legacy. More Feuding. FX is taking on another feud by giving the thumbs-up to a second season of Ryan Murphy’s Feud. Season one focused on Bette David and Joan Crawford, while season two is going royal. Feud: Charles and Diana will delve into the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. It’s set to arrive in 2018.
First Look. Neil Gaiman isn’t new to the world of television, but the adaptation of American Gods for Starz might be the biggest TV project he’s been part of–and it’s probably not the last. He’s signed a first look deal with American Gods‘ producer FremantleMedia North America. That means they’ll be digging into Gaiman’s portfolio of work to look for additional projects to develop for television, and they’ll keep Gaiman involved as writer and producer on any series that come together. After the World Ends. Season three of Fear the Walking Dead doesn’t have a premiere date just yet, but we have some photos and a synopsis for the AMC show. The 16-episode third season sounds like it will be more intense–I mean, obviously, the world has ended. AMC’s summary: “Our families will be brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. International lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but family as well.” Good luck with that. [TVLine, Images: AMC]
Not That Melrose. When I hear the word Melrose, I think of Melrose Place. I’m classy like that. But that’s so not what I should be picturing in regards to Benedict Cumberbatch‘s new project with Showtime. Melrose is a five-part limited series about Patrick Melrose, a character featured in the works of author Edward St. Aubyn. Cumberbatch will take on executive producer and lead roles in the series.
