Marvel Embraces The ‘90s in a New Round of Variant Covers

More than perhaps any other comic publisher, Marvel Comics felt the highs and lows of the 1990s. The decade got off to a good start with record-breaking sales for Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man #1, Rob Liefeld’s X-Force #1, and Jim Lee’s X-Men #1. However, McFarlane, Liefeld, Lee, and four other artists soon left Marvel to form Image Comics. In their absence, Marvel and other publishers over-saturated the comic book market with titles and gimmicks before the inevitable crash left Marvel in bankruptcy.

Twenty years later, Marvel is ready to look back at the ‘90s with some nostalgia, and the company is releasing twenty four Marvel ‘92 variant covers in December that will feature the characters as they were in the ‘90s and bring in some of the artists who actually worked on their respective Marvel titles during that era!
