Mark Hamill Poses with Jedi Mickey at STAR WARS Weekends

Mark Hamill is taking a break from Episode VII filming this weekend to appear at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends. It’s the first time he’s ever attended the event, and besides appearing in shows, signing autographs, and getting his photo taken with fans, he’s revealed a tidbit about the upcoming Star Wars film. Are you ready for this secret? Luke Skywalker has a beard! Probably.

I tease, but it is intriguing since perhaps it means he’s a hermit out in the deserts of Tatooine like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Or maybe he lost his razor and hasn’t bothered to replace it. Either way, you can get an idea of what Episode VII Luke Skywalker will look like thanks to a photo released by Disney. Inside the Magic shared this gem by Disney photographer David Roark:

Mickey Mouse and Mark Hamill

Hamill clearly still has it. Squint your eyes a little and imagine him in a dusty brown Jedi robe or even the black threads he wore in Return of the Jedi. It works, doesn’t it? Even if the beard isn’t for the film, we still get to see him with a lightsaber, and that’s just fun.

The actor will undoubtedly get questions from fans about Episode VII this weekend, but he probably isn’t allowed to say much. In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, he did at least discuss his preparation for the role and what he’s seen around set: “I’ve altered my diet. I’ve started working out. There’s that. But on the film itself: I toured the departments, I’ve looked at wardrobe, and I saw the creature shop. I went around and met all the cast people, saw the technicians working on some new things.”

What kind of role do you think Luke Skywalker will have in Episode VII? I’m sort of hoping he has mouse ears. Jump to the comments and share your opinions!

I knew they would make him get in shape for this movie..he had too as he looked really worn out like he just didn’t care anymore.  I like the beard a lot hope it’s part of the movie look.

thank god.. he looks terrific compared to how hes looked the past 20 years. this is how i envisioned an old Luke Skywalker. Better than a fat disheveled Luke
