Gotham City has a new mayor in The LEGO Batman Movie, and it’s Mariah Carey! The bestselling singer and occasional actress is reportedly in negotiations to play Gotham City’s mayor alongside Will Arnett, who is reprising his role as Batman from The LEGO Movie.
The original report on Deadline had Carey playing a female version of Commissioner James Gordon. However, a subsequent story by The Hollywood Reporter has indicated that Carey is up for the mayor, but the name of her character was not revealed.
Rosario Dawson has already signed on to The LEGO Batman to voice Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, with Michael Cera as Robin, and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth. Zach Galifianakis was cast as the Joker last summer, but itâs not clear if his deal for the movie has closed.
Carey has previously starred in a few films, including Glitter, WiseGirls, The Bachelor, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Precious, and The Butler. Careyâs voiceover roles have included The Proud Family and American Dad.
The Flash director and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author, Seth Grahame-Smith, wrote the script for The LEGO Batman Movie, which will be directed by Chris McKay, the animation supervisor of The LEGO Movie. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of The LEGO Movie, are also producing The LEGO Batman Movie with Dan Lin.
The LEGO Batman Movie will be released on May 26, 2017.
