No one will ever accuse George R.R. Martin of making the Game Of Thrones universe small. The continents of Westeros, Sothoryos and Essos are as varied as our own, and each location, in some small part, lends to the character’s mindset and personality traits in the show. The posh Lannisters, in many cases, had a rude awakening dealing with the hardships of the world beyond King’s Landing, while the Stark children were always a bit more adaptable to their surroundings having been brought up in the considerably harsher, at least in climate, Winterfell. The geography of the known world in Game Of Thrones is very much a character itself, so it’s no wonder the minds behind the show go to immense lengths to make sure each is represented as best it can be with its filming locations. Â
In an effort to showcase the appeal of the country of Morocco, the folks at Lawrence Of Morocco (a family business with a love of, you guessed it, Morocco) has put together a map of all the filming locations from Game Of Thrones, and it is impressive.
Click on the image on the left to enlarge the map and you’ll be treated to the locations and thumbnails of the iconic buildings or scenery from each. They’ve also included annotations of which seasons each location appeared in. This map is a testament to the effort HBO puts into the show. In a world where everything could be green-screened in a studio somewhere, the producers of HBO know that using breathtaking and REAL locations is important to the voice of the show.
What do you think of the GOTÂ map? What’s that saying? “See Volantis and die”, right? Anyone want to plan a back-packing trip? Let us know in the comments below!
