Man of Tai Chi is Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut. Well, sure, okay, right. Huh. But wait — martial arts. Ass kicking galore. A young Tai Chi master roped in by a seemingly malevolent Keanu (as opposed to Sad Keanu). So, there’s that. Tiger Chen (a/k/a Tiger Hu Chen, who did stunts in the Matrix trilogy and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) plays the young fighter, Keanu plays Malevolent Keanu, and it’s all Fight Club-by (sans the Tyler Durden twist) and stuff. And, yes, at the end of the trailer, Keanu and the kid face off. They couldn’t NOT do that.
The movie opens November 1st after a premiere screening at Fantastic Fest in Austin and a VOD release on September 27th. Nice and full details with the good post on martial arts. http://www.judo.com.gr/
I’ve seen it. The actual fights are awful. The wire work is very noticeable. While that would have been OK for the Matrix because of the storyline, it doesn’t really work in this movie. Also, Reeves is also VERY out or practice. Anyone who has done any kind of martial arts training can see his movements are awkward, and he makes a lot of newbie mistakes.
if Keanu is trying to redeem himself for that awful Day The Earth Stood Still remake? He’s off to a good start …..
