Maisie Williams Will Return to DOCTOR WHO Later This Year

Maisie Williams appeared in her second episode of Doctor Who on Saturday night, playing the now-centuries-old Viking maiden Ashildr who became the 17th Century Lady Me. And, if you ask me, she killed it, both times, portraying the sadness and pain of someone who’s endured hundreds of years of life without the ability to travel time and space, stuck on the “slow path” to quote a much older episode. Now, it’s been confirmed that the Game of Thrones actress will return to the series for the tenth episode, “Face the Raven.”

Over the weekend, at London’s MCM Comic-Con, “Face the Raven” writer Sarah Dollard confirmed that Ashildr/Me would be back for her episode. During “The Woman Who Lived,” we find out that the character decided to be there for the people the Doctor leaves following his swoop-in/swoop-out style of day-saving. “Someone has to look out for the people you abandon, who better than me? I’ll be the patron saint of the Doctor’s leftovers,” she told him. She also says, “While you’re busy protecting this world, I’ll get busy protecting it from you.” When the Doctor expresses that he thinks he’s very glad he saved her life, she replies, rather ominously, “I think everyone will be.”

In the final scene of the episode, when Clara (Jenna Coleman) returns to the TARDIS, she shows the Doctor a selfie taken by a student of Clara’s the Doctor helped, and in the background we see Ashildr, still watching out for people. The UK publication The Mirror has a spoiler-ful reason for the character’s return in episode 10, but I won’t say anything about it here.

Whatever the reason, more Maisie Williams on Doctor Who is a welcome addition in my book. Are you excited for more? Let me know in the comments below!
