MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Remake Loses Jason Momoa, Gains Peter Sarsgaard

The remake of The Magnificent Seven has had some really big names attached to it for a little while now. Along with the likes of Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington, the Western had snagged former Game Of Thrones and Conan The Barbarian star, Jason Momoa, to play opposite them. Sadly, it seems as though Mr. Momoa was not fated to appear in this updated classic after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jason Momoa has dropped out of the film, in which he had been cast as one of the thieves terrorizing a town out west. This news is offset, however, by the announcement that Peter Sarsgaard, fresh off of NBC’s The Slap, will be signing on as a main villain in the film. This is not, however, the same role Momoa recently exited.

The film tells the story of a small town out west being terrorized by a robber baron and his band of thieves, until a woman recruits a group of seven gunfighters to come protect the town. The original film–from 1960–starred big names of the era such as Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, and Charles Bronson, and was actually based on another film, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. The remake will be written by Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective) and John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), with a cast also featuring Ethan Hawke, Matt Bomer, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, and Wagner Moura. Haley Bennett will play the woman that seeks out the gunslingers to save her town.

What do you think of the cast for this Western revival? Let us know in the comments below.
