MAD MEN’s Peggy Olson Mashed Up With Drake Will Empower You

It’s only now starting to sink in that I’m never going to get another season of Mad Men… ever. And while I know I’ll be able to live the rest of my life quite happily without seeing any more of Don Draper’s ongoing existential crises, or Pete Campbell and Harry Crane being awful jerks, it’ll be Peggy Olson, played by the great Elisabeth Moss, who I’ll really miss the most.

Peggy started out the series in 1960 with those terrible bangs, in the secretarial pool of Sterling/Cooper, wanting more from her career than just taking memos and hoping to sleep with the boss. Peggy, who, by the end of the series, made it all the way to copy chief. She was the real reason to tune in to Mad Men every week. When Pete Campbell tells her that he thinks she’ll be the first ever female head of creative by 1980, I’d like to think that’s Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s way of letting the fans know that’s exactly where Peggy Olson eventually ends up. You might say she made it all the way from the bottom to the very top.

Someone else who started at the bottom and made it to the top was rap superstar Drake (or, at least he thinks he started at the bottom, if the bottom is being on a Canadian teen soap opera for several years). A YouTube user by the name of Alex Pompliano wisely took Drake’s (uncensored) hit song ‘Started from the Bottom’ and mashed it up to scenes of Peggy Olson from all seven seasons of Mad Men. The mashup highlights her evolution from timid secretary to the badass who walks into McCann/Erickson on her first day of work smoking a cigarette and more than a little drunk (it’s cool, she knows she’s got this). So watch the video above, and let Peggy Olson be your spirit animal today.
