Lupita Nyong’o Up For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Role?

In maybe the most interesting bit of casting news for Star Wars Episode VII to hit in some time, Latino-Review ran the scoop that recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o is up for a role in the movie, possibly as a Sith warrior. Then The Hollywood Reporter seemingly confirmed that talks were going on, as their sources say that Nyong’o met with J.J. Abrams just a few weeks ago, right before the Academy Awards ceremony, at which she took home the prize for best supporting actress for her turn in 12 Years a Slave.

As for who she would be playing, who knows which story has it right? As with all things related to Episode VII, it’s unclear; one possibility floating around is that of a relative or grandchild of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was rumored to be a non-Caucasian role. Which, of course, begs the question, when the Hell did Obi-Wan have kids, much less grandkids? Or maybe she’s playing a Sith, as the original rumor suggests? All I know is this… I wanna see Lupita swing a lightsaber at some point. Also, she needs to find time in her schedule to replace Halle Berry as Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, because that simply NEEDS to happen. I mean, there’s a change.org petition for this already, so you know it’s gotta happen. Those things always work.

I’d much rather see on Disney XD a series where Obi Wan adopts Mace Windu’s two young sons in a high rise on Coruscant with Leah as his “daughter” and Shmi as the wacky maid. Diff’rent Jedi Strokes!
