LUPITA NYONG’O Attached to Colin Trevorrow’s Latest Sci-Fi Film

Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the new pic from Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, according to THR. The film is reportedly a sci-fi thriller called Intelligent Life, and was written by Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly. Trevorrow isn’t likely to direct this one – he’s doing a little project called Star Wars: Episode IX. Maybe you’ve heard about it? The director for the project may end up being Selma director Ava DuVernay. Need more big names? The film comes to us from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Trevorrow is producing it with Frank Marshall. The film is expected to begin production this coming summer.

Intelligent Life is based on something that Trevorrow and Connolly had previously worked on called The Ambassador. The story centered around “a U.N. worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien.” Nyong’o is expected to play a woman “at the center of the alien contact,” though that leaves it pretty unclear as to whether she’ll be playing an alien herself. A summer start is being targeted.

Fans were really split about Jurassic World, which Trevorrow also wrote. I was not split – it wasn’t my cup of tea. I’ve been concerned about what he’s going to do with a Star Wars film, though he’ll just be directing that one. I don’t think I could handle General Leia Organa running in heels or Rey slowly losing clothing and her face being gradually covered in glycerine sweat as she sexually awakens. No, seriously, watch it again. Mind-controlled dino-warriors? Ugh.

For the record, Nyong’o had the very best lines in all of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “Where’s my boyfriend? I love that Wookie.” I don’t care how many people call Maz Kanata “Orange Yoda.” Best. Line. Ever. I will watch this woman do anything. What do you think of an alien movie from Trevorrow? Do you heart Lupita as much as I do? Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and tell us your thoughts!
