BOOM! Studios announced today that first volume of the superb all-ages series Lumberjanes was heading into its fifth printing. Oh yeah, and the series has been optioned for a live-action frickinâ movie. Guys and gals, this is amazing news: weâve been singing the praise of this comic book and couldnât be happier for its success. Thus far, the trade paperback of Lumberjanes has sold 65,000 copies, a huge feat for any graphic novel, but doubly impressive given itâs an all-ages book.
20th Century Fox are optioning the book, with BOOM! Studios producing. If it makes it to the screen itâll be the second film from the publisher, the first being the Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg-starrer, 2 Guns. FOX has a first-look relationship with BOOM! Studios, so itâs no surprise that they are snatching up solid properties like Lumerbjanes for the big screen.
The comic focuses on five friends and a summer camp where anything can seem to happen. Itâs about friendship, fun, and battling mythical creatures. Wether you are a comic book fan or not, youâll find lots to love in this series, itâs overflowing with heart. We named one of the Best Comics of 2014 and earlier this year noted that it was the perfect property to adapt for the big screen.
Personally, I have a lot of love for this series. I read it with my five-year-old daughter and she tears the covers off the comics to hang on her wall. Itâs a comic with a positive message and vision, the kind of thing we need more of these days. It’s unique and fresh, something new in a time where everything is a retread, reboot, or reimagining. I can guarantee you that my daughter and I will be in line opening day for this movie. Itâs hard to say who is more excited about this news, me or her.
Lumberjanes is definitely worthy of all the praise it receives. All-age comics are far too rare these days, so one that is wonderfully done and a sale success is a big deal. Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson, and Brooke Allen have crafted one of the best books on the stands and itâs something you should be reading. Since thereâs a movie on the way, you are officially out of excuse, go buy this comic and buy it now.
