Louis C.K.’s BETTER THINGS Puts a GAME OF THRONES Joke to “Shame”

It’s a real “shame” when a great joke is met by stony silence, but just because it falls flat in a coffee shop, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a perfect comedic moment for a television show.

In this clip from Vulture of Louis C.K.‘s new (new new) show, Better Things on FX, starring Pamela Adlon and which the two co-created together, Adlon’s Sam can’t help but notice that the ringing bell that keeps going off when the door is opened at the local coffee hangout sounds an awful lot like the one Cersei Lannister heard during her walk of shame on Game of Thrones. Unfortunately for her, she’s surrounded by the only people in America that don’t seem to watch the show, or at the very least don’t have a sense of humor.

What a….pity.

Better Things is the third new show created from Louis C.K. this year, following the Zack Galifianakis led Baskets on FX, and Horace and Pete, which C.K. released exclusively through his website. This new show, starring his frequent co-star Adlon, is loosely based on her life, and it follows a struggling actress in Los Angeles with three daughters “juggling the pressures of working in Hollywood and being a single parent.”

Adlon is wonderful, and if this just ends up being a female-style take on the same type of humor and perspective that we got from Louie (which we’re still holding out hope will return), then that is perfectly fine by us.

Better Things premieres this September.

What’s your favorite Louie episode with Pamela? It would be a shame if you didn’t tell us in the comments below.
