Look For An Edited Version Of THE WALKING DEAD On MyNetworkTV This Fall

You guys love The Walking Dead, right? You love the ultra-violence? The gore? The morally questionable characters? Well get ready to have a lot of that cut out for a more “family-friendly” edit that will be made to accommodate the purchase of exclusive off-network syndication rights of the series by MyNetworkTV.

Starting this fall, the broadcast semi-network (owned by Fox, made up of affiliates left over during the WB/UPN merger that created The CW, and now airing off-network reruns in prime-time blocks) will air a version of the zombie-drama that complies with broadcast self-regulation that allowed it to meet a TV-14 rating. What that will look like is anyone’s guess, but bet on most of the edits having to do with language and less on violence, as much of the standards have eased up in recent years on that front (just ask The Blacklist). The network will air two episodes back-to-back one night a week.

You gotta hand it to AMC and Robert Kirkman; Creating the hottest series with adults 18-49 doesn’t come without its perks. Everyone, and this news does confirm everyone, wants in on the zombie action. Whether it’s creating a comedic zombie series like The CW had Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) do with iZombie, or re-cutting a fan favorite, zombie shows are not going away any time soon.

the show is so geared for adult and i also know so many families that let their kids watch it anyway with the cover your eyes policy you know who you are( I am one) so much of the story line will be affected and watered down and lose that since of the need to survive.

WELL I TELL YOU YA WE YA LOVE THE WALKING DEAD YOU SHOULDNT CUT NOTHING OUT THAT MAKES MY DAY ON SUNDAY TO WATCH THE SHOW THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE THAN YOU REALIZE THAT LOVE THIS SHOW ALL THE CHARACTERS IN THERE .. SHOULD GO ON FROM THERE WITH A BRAND NEW ONE THIS FALL

  3. Ben says:

I totally agree with MrHandy. This is purely an advertising move. Kirkman selling out?

  4. MrHandy says:

If they take all that stuff out of each episode it will probably be about four minutes long. The sponsors will love it when they can have 56 minutes of commercials.

  5. Ethan says:

It didn’t work when they tried to do it with Dexter, doubt it will work here. I expect we’ll see them do it with a season but abandon it after that. Most of the audience that watches it or will watch it either have a tv package that includes AMC or stream it, I can’t imagine there’s too many viewers out there that have been waiting for a “family-friendly” Walking Dead.

  6. Nick says:

The Walking Dead was never intended to be Kid friendly. It would be like taking Silent Hill or GTA 5 and trying to make THAT for families. Logic, where is it?
